Adjusting

I'm having a hard time adjusting to school being over. All last week we worked on our CAT test. (We have one sub-test left to complete.) My brain is in overload and I just cannot seem to turn it off.

I talked to Bob about this early this morning. I told him I was a little blue or off right now. He laughed and said it is because I'm a very scheduled person and I don't have a schedule for non-school mode yet.

That's all he said, the man of few words. But he was right. He nailed it.

There are so many possibilities. There are so many projects I want to do, so many friends we could get together with that is difficult during the school year, so many places to go.

I just feel stuck and overwhelmed because I don't know where to start!

Ah, I have always been good about making routines and schedules. I think I need a week of nothingness first in order to clear my brain.

Sit down with Thomas and make a list of everything you want to do.
Then number it all in order of importance (if you could do just ONE thing off of the list, which one would it be? Give it #1. If you could do just ONE more thing, which would it be? Give it #2 - and so on).

Now you've got a place to start - make plans to go do #1 and work your way down the list.

My problem is that my list ends up being so long it looks like Santa's list of names, lol - but the numbering and really asking myself "If I could do just ONE thing" helps me focus on what is more important and get the overwhelming clutter of the less important stuff out of the guilt-trip section of my brain. :)

It does sound like you could use a week to decompress. :-) After that ... I really like Carrie's suggestion. Congrats on almost being done with the CAT.

I know the feeling.

I finished up my graduate semester in mid-May. N. had finished Kamana just before that, and we both kind of moped around for two full weeks--feeling unproductive and, well, as you put it, "off."

But now our summer projects are coming together and we are moving into "summer mode." More informal, more outdoorsy, somewhat less structured.

But during the down-time--even though we really needed it--I felt very much like I should be doing something, but what should it be?

It will pass.

How is your patio coming along?
